Banbridge CC’s Nicola McKiverigan and Russell White picked up two of the main awards at the recent Banbridge Senior Sports Awards, held at the Belmont hotel on 4th March. Due to the merging of the local councils this would be the final Banbridge District Awards, and offered a chance to reflect on the many accomplishments of both Athletes and Volunteers in 2014. The evening’s ceremony was hosted by sports presenter with UTV Sport, Denise Watson.
Collecting the award for Coach of the Year was Nicola McKiverigan. Nicola’s ongoing dedication to coaching on Road, track and MTB has seen her collect numerous awards already, including Cycling Ulster Volunteer of the year in both 2013 & 2014. The development of those under her study has seen them progress from grass roots track racing at the outdoor venue in Orangefield, Belfast, to selection to ride as part of Team Sky at the Olympic Velodrome in London and British National Cycling Centre in Manchester.

Sportsman of the Year was awarded to Russell White. Russell, who has been a member of Banbridge CC for a number of years now to help develop his cycling was selected to compete in the Triathlon at last year’s Commonwelath Games in Glasgow and is also a member of the Triathlon Ireland High Performance squad under the watchful eye of Tommy Evans, who many will remember from his own exploits in a Banbridge and Ireland cycling jersey.

Banbridge CC would like to offer congratulations to both Nicola and Russell on their accomplishments and well deserved awards. Both are sure to attract much more success in 2015 as the season progresses.
