CLUB RIDES

General Information

You will need to be a member of both Cycling Ireland and Banbridge Cycling Club to join us on our rides. In addition, you must have a road worthy bicycle and wear a helmet.  You should always carry at least one spare tube, tyre levers, pump, food for the ride and some money in case of emergencies. Club Etiquette applies to all the runs, where we will abide by the Highway Code at all times, won’t break red lights, ride two abreast only, single file where appropriate and wear the club colours with pride.

Mid- Week Social

As the name suggests this is a very relaxed ride where all comers are made to feel part of the group from day 1.  Many of the participants have years of cycling behind them and are only too willing to share knowledge and expertise.  Quite often utilising the Newry – Portadown tow path and quieter roads it’s a great way to build confidence if you are someone new to the sport.  A coffee stop is a prerequisite of any ride and the people in this group know all the best places to stop!  A great way to get to know your fellow club members.

Leisure Run

Headed up by three very experienced road captains this longstanding group enjoy slightly longer rides taking in the breath-taking scenery which is never too far from the starting point in Banbridge – be that the coastal routes, country lanes or Mourne mountains.  Drawing on the knowledge of Charlie, Gerry, and Ruth this group can act as a great platform for those that want to improve their cycle craft skills with a view to progressing onto other club rides.  Great craic and banter are guaranteed as is a coffee stop.  The motto in this group is very much ‘we start together, and we finish together’.  A no drop ride!

Race Training

If you fancy yourself as a racing snake, then this is the group for you.  Throughout the year the rides will be geared towards preparation for the racing season. This can mean longer endurance rides couple with interval sessions.  Its not all hard work though and a coffee stop is usually factored into the ride somewhere along the route.

MTB

This group utilises the many great MTB venues within easy reach of Banbridge – Castlewellan Forest, Tollymore Forest, Donard, Rostrevor and the Cooley Mountains to mention a few.  With plenty of off-road experience within the group all comers are welcome.  (Do we need to add something about rides being communicated via WhatsApp?  I assume that’s how they do it!).
