SHENNA SET TO CONTINUE HER ROAD ON THE TRACK

Shenna McKiverigan’s achievements on the track  and selection to ride for Team Sky at the Hoy Future Stars league as part of the Revolution series has captured the attention and hearts of the cycling fraternity both locally and across the water.  Having recently secured a ‘Make it Happen’ Award from Dame Mary Peters and also funding from The Belgian Project, Shenna has been able to fund numerous trips to London, Manchester and Glasgow velodromes to compete.  The recent announcement of planning permission being granted for an Irish national velodrome will come as great news for many Irish track cyclists, however it won’t be built overnight and itself is still subject to approval of funding.  Until then cyclists who wish to compete and train on an indoor velodrome will need to travel to the UK or further abroad.

Despite recovering from a nasty crash in the previous round of the Hoy Future Stars league Shenna lined up for the final round in Manchester, determined to leave a positive account of herself.  While the results in Manchester weren’t her highest, Shenna’s conduct, professionalism and want to succeed had captured the eyes of the local coaches with an eye for potential, and following the event Shenna has been invited to train every month in British Cycling’s National Cycling Centre with Manchester Wheelers. To assist with travel costs Shenna has also received a very kind donation from our neighbouring cycling club West Down Wheelers.  This opportunity to regularly train in a world class facility is certainly a massive opportunity and one that very few in Ireland have exposure to.

Thanks must a go to all the local clubs, businesses and private contributors who have enabled Shenna to make the most of her opportunity and continue to develop Banbridge CC’s ‘Future Star’.
