Last weekend Banbridge CC’s James Curry and Gareth McKee where in action at the third round of the British Mountain bike XC National Points Series in Fforest Fields, Wales.

Both riders are competing across the entire British series this year so it is all about consistency and ensuring they secure a solid result at each event.  So far this year and off the back of some fine performances James currently lies in 6th position overall in the Junior Category with Gareth at 17th in the Elite Category. This is the first year both lads have targeted the overall series and it’s encouraging to see them performing so well overseas.

James, who was representing Cycling Ulster on this occasion got a good start to the race in Fforest Fields; holding his own in the top 10 and looking comfortable, however a coming together with a fellow competitor cost valuable time. James then battled his way through the field and despite a slight mechanical on the last lap was able to secure another top 10 finish in 7th position.  This sets him up well for a high overall standing going into the last two rounds of the series.

In the Elite race Gareth McKee, wearing his Banbridge CC colours, got off to a slow start suffering from a stitch on the first two laps.  As the race went on Gareth starting progressing his way through the field riding, from group to group to finish in 17th.

The next round of the series is at the 2014 Commonwealth Games course of Cathkin Braes in Glasgow on the 21st of June where Banbridge CC will once again look to put in a solid performance.
