20 April 2017 Adam McGreevy

Wednesday 19th April was the 3rd and final round of Mac 2-Up Cup. This round was a real tester of a course. Rathfriland road, Mays corner, Katesbridge and finishing on the Castlewellan road making it a 15mile circuit. The weather was holding up nicely for the event for a change. With a few of the riders away to BCC training camp so it was going to be between six pairs of riders. The first real test of the circuit was the Annaclone climb. First to hit the climb was Ian and Phil. The pair where on form tonight they had already made up on 2 groups that started one minute apart in front of them, getting a headwind home to the finish they got a great time of 39:53. Paul and Malcom where going great over the previous rounds and it was still continuing coming home with a solid 45:32. Scott Henderson and Chris Burns the week where hoping for a clear run and they got a great run with a 41:45. Marty and Neil also had a good run coming in with 39:58. It was down to Pete McBride and James MacMahon and Stevie Fitzsimmons and Mark Stewart to see who was going to have the best time. Pete and James getting a great time 38:28. Mark and Stevie just beating their time with a brilliant 38:04. That’s all the riders that was left to fight over the Mac Cup. Also out was Mother and Son Team Glover as Lee was out with an injury. Just missing out on a sub 45min with a 45:15. Dan Purdy and John Buller teamed up but also out of the running for the Mac Cup did an absolutely brilliant time 37:03. Kevin McAlinden was out on his own for a bit of training and still set a blistering time 39:26. Thanks to Alan and his team of Marshals due to the size of the circuit he had to get a lot of junctions covered. John and Lydia for their time keeping duties and Toni for her great photo’s
