Wednesday night saw our second visit to the Diamond Circuit in three weeks. Whilst the skies were grey in places, thankfully the rain stayed away until everyone got round the course. With a bit of a headwind, there were 18 riders on the start line eager to get started on the 10.5-mile route. First off was Paul Hannigan trying to improve on his last visit. He battled up the two main climbs of the circuit both coming within the first 1.5 miles, he completed it the course in 36.50, improving on his last TT.
Next of was Malcolm Jenkins, winner from last weeks Annaclone Race. He has been very consistent this season and covered the ground in a terrific time of 30.39. Marty Fitzpatrick was flying off next and had a great time of 29.17.
Next we had Nigel, Brian and Ian all going well and after battling the hills all finished with great times. Charlie Glover set off and the hills didn’t seem to bother him he completed it in a time of 29.58. This was Neil McAllister’s first time completing the circuit and he did it in a great time of 28.24.
The ever consistent John Buller improved on his time with an amazing 25.10 there was no stopping John and especially as he was being chased by World Cup Gold Medal winner Mark Downey! Mark delighted everyone by coming along to compete last night on his home ground, wearing his French Club colours CC Etupes. He finished in an incredible 23.55. Mark is now off to the An Post Ras race next week, which we wish him well.
Ruth McKee was taking part in her second TT, with the first one being on the Diamond Circuit two weeks ago. Ruth got off to a great start, clearly loving the hill climbs and still managing a smile for the camera! She finished in a brilliant time of 34.18 earning her not only QOM for this circuit but also the winner on handicap which means she will pick up the Quinn Cup. We can be guaranteed there is more of this to come. Ruth is currently training hard and is putting in big mileage for the forthcoming Gran Fondo. Well done Ruth on your great success!
Ruth McKee won on the night with Mark Downey in 2nd place and John Buller in 3rd and Stephen Fitzsimmons in a close 4th.
Many thanks to the Timekeepers and marshals who helped out on the night.
