Banbridge CC Hosted the NPS Round 4 at Castlewellan Forest Park on Sunday 23rd June.

There was a great turnout on a dry but grey day. With almost 200 entries ranging from the Under6’s to Senior 1 Men there was something to suit everyone.

This was a challenging course with a few hills along the way to conquer, the trails were in great condition and thanks must go to organiser Gareth McKee and his band of volunteers from Banbridge CC who helped him prepare the course.

It was a good day for Banbridge CC starting with the under 10’s with Ryan McBride taking 2nd place in the podium, this was a great performance from Ryan considering he’s not long back cycling after having broken his leg playing Rugby, so well done Ryan. His dad Peter also did well today finishing in 8th Place in the S4 race.

Certainly looked like it was a father /son day as Michael Runciman took 1st place on the podium a strong performance from Michael throughout the race while his dad Jon finished 16th in the S3 race, good results all round.

After a hard week preparing the course it was time for Gareth McKee who is the current National Cross Country Champion to take to the trails in the S1 race. 11 riders started and it was a tough race with 6 laps to complete . Gareth got of to a good start but another local man David Montgomery ( unattached ) put in a very strong performance and led the field , enough get him to 1st place on the podium in 2nd place was David Duggan with Gareth finishing in 3rd place.

In the S2 ladies race Ruth McKee narrowly missed out on the podium by finishing in 4th place , again a very hard fought race with very little between them.
