Banbridge CC’s Ryan McBride travelled to the Sundrive Track in Dublin today, Saturday, to face his first Irish National Youth Track Cycling Championships. Having recently upgraded to the Under 12 ranks, the young 10-year-old would be competing against lads 2 years his senior.  Experience was the main aim of the day.

An early start in Banbridge at 6.45am to get on the road and arrive in good time for warm ups and some track time ahead of his qualifying heat. With a blistering time of 16.16sec in the flying 200m he qualified for the quarter finals.  Competing against the defending National Champion Ryan finished in 4th place overall, an excellent start to the day.

The 100m Standing Start TT was his next race on the day’s schedule where he placed 6th.  After a short break the Scratch was his final race and Ryan was once again right in the mix.  Some difficult positioning meant he got a little boxed in and again finished just off the podium with another 4th place.

All in all a really solid debut at the Cycling Ireland National Youth Track Championships which Ryan can take lots of positives from and build on for future events!
