Fresh off his Silver medal at the UCI Masters World Championship Time Trial, Burran CC’s Paul Kennedy added the 2022 Thomas White Memorial TT to his illustrious list of victories in Warrenpoint today.

Kennedy, who is also the Irish National Masters TT Champion, made the trip from Limerick for the Banbridge CC promoted event and collected both the Master’s 40 prize as well the overall fastest time by clocking 19:02 over the 10 mile course.  Local Newry man, Gareth O’Neill, of Team Caldwell Cycles was the second fastest rider on the day with 19:21, but with a only slim margin of 3 seconds over 3rd placed rider Mitchell McLaughlin of EvoPro Racing.  Paul Antoine Hagan of host club Banbridge CC was in 4th with 20:05.

Fastest woman on the day was Ciara Havern of Newry Wheelers CC, while Arcane Cycling Team’s Shauna Finn of Limerick was fastest junior woman, and gained enough points on the day to win the overall Cycling Ireland Women’s Commission Intermediate League.

Josephine Helion and Linda Kelly were the fastest tandem pair on the day, which was of little surprise given their recent success at the Paracycling World Cup In Quebec Canada where they claimed the silver medal in both the Time Trial and road Race.

In the Master’s categories Paul Carroll, Unattached Ulster, was fastest M50 while Dromara CC’s Colin McGready was fastest M60.

The event also played host to the final round of the Cycling Ireland Paracycling National Series.  Fastest individual paracyclist was Ivan Naluswa of Reservoir Cogs, while Irish National Champion Declan Slevin of Rosemount Cycling Club was the fastest hand cyclist.  Both riders also took the overall honours in the categories in the National Series, with Kanturk’s Cormac O’Callaghan was most improved rider in the league.

It was fantastic to see such support for the end of season event, with competitors travelling the length of Ireland to compete.  It also concludes another successful season of Banbridge CC event promotions.  Thanks must go to all of the club’s working committee, volunteers, race officials, sponsors and of course competitors who continue to support the events.
