Next up in our series is Brian Hannon.
As the Grand Daddy of the club’s Time Trialling cohort its fair to say most of us would like to know the secret of his youthfulness! Brian’s cycling exploits are numerous and often go under the radar. He is extremely generous with his time and if it is in anyway remotely related to cycling, he will be involved – whether that is donning his Hi-Viz bib to marshal at events or supporting other clubs charity events. The bottom line though is that he is rarely out of the saddle.
Care to have a guess how many miles he clocked up in his Strava all time profile history?
Time Trialing Since: Brian has been cycling all his life but only became a club member 10 years ago. Even then, he only purchased his TT bike 2 years ago.
TT Rig & Setup: Planet X 10 speed with Sram components. Finished off with what Brian calls good wheels!
What is your helmet of choice? Currently wearing a Kask Bambino.
Favourite TT Course and why? Warrenpoint – it’s a 10 mile course and its fast!
Favourite TT Distance: 25 miles
Personal Best Time for a 10? 21.48
Have you got any TT bling in the trophy cabinet? If so what have you got?
Brian’s answer to this was brief so I don’t know if he was being modest or was just getting bored of the questions! I can however confirm that Brian has numerous Ulster and National titles and medals. If memory serves me right, he held Ulster M60 title in Road Racing, Time Trialling and Hill Climbing all in the same year.
Goals for 2023 Season: ‘Keep on trucking’ – (seems like a fair enough goal to me!)
Do you have any speed tips you’d like to share with your fellow testers?
Aero is best!
The all-important final question. Shaved legs, Yes or No? – Yes
And the answer to that earlier question about miles clocked up on Strava? 71,802. My car is ten years old and it hasn’t got that many miles on the clock!
Brian, here’s to another successful season on the bike. You truly are an inspiration to many a younger rider.
