We couldn’t run a series on our TT riders without including the inimitable Ruth McKee.  A talented rider with steely determination and grit she is not afraid to put herself out there be it at a club TT or road race event.  The other redeeming feature that Ruth is known for is her beaming smile!  I challenge you to find a photograph of her in competition were she is not smiling.

Time Trialling Since: Started TT’s in 2017

Tell us about your TT rig setup!  What ya riding?

Ruth doesn’t have a TT specific bike but is the owner of a very nice Storck road bike.  This has had a few upgrades added to include electronic shifting.

What is your helmet of choice?  Have you splashed out (or would you) on one of the new space age aero concepts that are starting appear on the scene?

In an effort to go that little bit quicker Ruth purchased a Laser Wasp aero helmet last year and used it for the first time in the season ending Thomas White Memorial TT event.

Favourite TT Course and why?

No particular favourite as such.  In her own words they are ‘all difficult’. (I think most would agree with that).  If pushed however Ruth would put the Rathfriland Road to Annaclone circuit at the top of the list.

Favourite TT Distance

10 miles.

Personal Best Time for a 10?

27.48

Have you got any TT bling in the trophy cabinet?  If so what have you got?

Like a few others in the series Ruth has acquired a fair amount of bling over the years.  Her name featuring prominently on the club Best All Rounder (BAR) for quite a few years.  She also won the Quinn Cup on the Dromore circuit in 2018.

What are your goals for the 2023 season?

Main goal for me is the World Duathlon standard distance event to be held later on this month in Ibiza.  After that it will be to compete in as many club and interclub events as possible.

Do you have any speed tips you’d like to share with your fellow testers?

Ruth’s golden nugget is stay mentally strong and smile, it helps!

The all-important final question.  Shaved legs, yes or No?

We are all equals in Banbridge Cycling Club, so the final question applies to all!  Pleased to say Ruth answered with a strong Yes!!

These are exciting times for Ruth as she prepares for what is sure to be an amazing experience at the Worlds.  Everyone at the club wishes you the very best.  Make sure that Andy captures the experience on camera.  We look forward to hearing all about it.
