The 2023 Banbridge CC club racing league is once again proving to be hugely popular with members, supported by the Banbridge Inter-Club League, Banbridge CC member have turned out in impressive numbers alongside competitive cyclists from neighbouring and visiting club to ensure competitive racing week after week.  So far this season we have seen 45 different Banbridge CC members scoring points.

The format has presented great opportunity for those wanting to dip their to into competitive cycling among experienced rider who can share their knowledge and also those returning to fitness.  Of course it also contains a wealth of talent from some of our up and coming youth riders who continue to impress alongside seasoned racers who enjoy the short sharp mid-week races and craic among all those competing.

With 9 counting league races now completed the points table is starting to take shape. The top 10 scores of 14 rounds toward the overall league point tally, allowing competitors to drop their worst scores or miss a few weeks due to work or family commitments.   The  closing rounds of the season aways add some interest to the league, and this year should prove no different with enough points still available to potentially see significant change at the top of the table.

Currently topping the table with a healthy advantage is Dan Purdy on 170 points.  One of our most consistent open racers over the years, he could well have the staying power keep the top spot.  Only 14 points behind in 2nd place is Brian Hannon with 156 points.  JP Rice has taken massive strides in progression this year and currently sits in 3rd place on 154 points..

Ruth McKee is the highest scoring woman on 130 points and looks to regain her title in the Mayne Cup as Ladies BAR for 2023.  Riley Smith sits on 129 as our leading youth rider and has been claiming the scalps of many of our elite riders in a very impressive season.

The next round of the league is the Gilchrist Cup road race which sees a return to the popular Tandragee circuit tomorrow evening, 26th July.

Dan Purdy and Riley Smith in the thick of the action.

A champion on and off the bike, the ever competitive Ruth McKee.

Expect to see Riley Smith at the front for many years to come.
