Maiden BCC club event victory for Anna McArdle at Quinn Cup

Another relative newcomer to the club, Anna McArdle, has claimed her first win in a Banbridge CC event at tonight’s handicapped 25 mile TT Quinn Cup competition.  Philip Castles was the fastest rider on the night, completing the testing out and back TT on the Castlewellan Rd in a time of 58:32.  He was one of only 3 riders to dip under the hour on what proved to be a difficult night with an often blustery wind.

Both McArdle and Castles originate from triathlon backgrounds and it was perhaps that solo discipline that gave them the advantage in the individual endurance event. In addition to the hard road and longer TT distance, the change in weather brought a colder westerly wind, giving riders a harder homeward stretch with a headwind to contend with.   Anna, and twin sister Carla, joined the club just last year having had a close link for the club for many years through mother and long serving member Cathy.  Both have impressed with their determination and competitiveness, and have brough some very stiff competition to many seasoned competitors.

Massive thanks once again to all our volunteers, including the timekeepers and marshals, who probably weren’t expecting it to be quite such a cold evening in June for standing at the roadside, but nonetheless ensured another successful Banbridge CC club league event.
