It’s hard to imagine a better start to the inaugural Carn Wheelers 2 day stage race for Banbridge CC.  On this morning’s road stage Banbridge CC’s Mark Kendall claimed his first open road race victory in style, winning the opening stage and with it claiming the first yellow jersey as the leader on General Classification in the feature C2 race.

If that wasn’t enough Banbridge CC’s Riley Smith finished just outside the top 10 in 11th place, but importantly was the first junior rider across the line and now leads the Young Rider competition and picks up the white jersey for the leader in the Young Rider competition. This followed a busy day for young Riley who was busy on the climbs, picking up 3 x 2nd places on the 4 KOM primes and sits 2nd overall in the KOM competition.  As a result Banbridge now leads 2 of the 3 competitions within the race , and is 2nd within the other.  A good morning’s work!

Stage 2 takes place later this afternoon and will see the riders compete in a short time trial before the final stage tomorrow which has the riders face another road race stage to conclude the event,

It was bust 1st stage for Riley smith, picking up the white jersey for leading young rider, but also sits 2nd overall in the KOM competition.

Leading from the front during the stage, but Mark Kendall was at the very front when it mattered most.
