Last week we were excited to announce that Banbridge CC will enter a team in this year’s Rás Tailteann for the first time in our 80-year history. We were also delighted to share the news of some of our supporters for the event, including Galibier, Downey Cycles, and Dale Farm, and yesterday we confirmed that Telefónica Tech had extended their club sponsorship to sponsor the race team for the event.
Four Specsavers stores have come together to provide sponsorship of the Banbridge Cycling Club team’s participation in Rás Tailteann, a five-day international cycle race.
The 70th edition of the Rás Tailteann, which takes place 21st – 25th May, sees teams cycling from Drogheda, County Louth, to Boyle, County Roscommon, covering 760km of Irish roads across five stages.
The Banbridge team of five cyclists, Matthew Teggart, John Buller, Mark Downey, Johnny McRoberts and James Curry will compete against 28 other teams from Ireland, UK, mainland Europe and America.
Specsavers Portadown, Portadown Hearcare, Banbridge and Craigavon stores have provided much needed sponsorship to the Banbridge Cycling Club team, totalling £4,000 showing their support to the local club and their participation in this major event in the racing calendar.
Martin Duffy, the Banbridge team’s manager commented, “We’re so grateful to the four Specsavers store who have come together to provide this generous sponsorship for our team. Without the support of local businesses, many teams and sports clubs would simply not be able to take part in major competitions such as the Rás Tailteann. We wish to extend a huge thank you to the stores for their support.”
JP Rice, Chair of Specsavers Northern Ireland and Director at Portadown and Craigavon Specsavers stores added, “We’re delighted to sponsor the Banbridge Cycling Club team for this significant race. All our Specsavers stores are hubs in their local communities and its so important to us to show our support and get involved with local initiatives and events. We’re looking forward to the event and wish good luck to the team.”
The club would like to thank all the team at Specsavers for their generous support.
