Congratulations to Banbridge CC’s Chris Burns who scored a hattrick of podiums at the German Open Paracycling Track Championship at the weekend. Competing as part of the Cycling Ireland National Elite Paracycling Team who had made the trip for the weekend’s UCI international competition, Chris picked up two second places and one 3rd place.
His first 2nd place result came in the Men’s Elite C2 Elimination race where he was runner up to Germany’s Maximilian Kromen and beating Ivo Koblasa of the Czech Republic. He followed this up with another 2nd place in the Men’s Elite C2 Scratch race where he was once again tussling with Germany’s Kromen.
In the Men’s Elite C1-C3 1km time trial, one of Chris’ favoured and specialty events, he was 3rd overall but significantly was the first of the Elite C2 riders. It was another successful international meeting for the Banbridge rider, that will give him a confidence and hunger for more international competition for the remainder of the season.
Speaking after the event Chris commented “I’ve been recording some really solid numbers this year so I’ve been keen to putting that form into use at an international level. It was at outdoor track in Cottbus (Germany), so the times were never likely to challenge what we record indoors, but it’s still great to come away with some nice results against world class field of international riders. A big goal for me this year is now to build on these results and form. I’m super keen to get exposure to UCI level international competition at an indoor track and post the world class times I know I’m capable of, which should hopefully also help me getting close to delivering more international podiums.”
